Scrolling issues using Windows 11
How do I resolve scrolling issues (unable to scroll) on many websites. AI recommendations of clearing browsing history and cache have not been effective. Scrolling is possible using Google Chrome.

Do you have a particular example site in mind that can be used to verify and inspect the behavior? Thanks.
The website below is where I first noticed this issue:
So okay, I see the site is a little more convoluted to scroll, as it's not natural document scrolling but they apparently script the scroll timeline instead to some extent. That's however quite common and pretty well supported for years so it should not give you any trouble.
Do you by any chance use some third party system mouse tools as support.mozilla.org/kb/x-mouse-button-control-firefox-110 or similar? Does the same reproduce if you restart intro Troubleshoot Mode from Help menu?
I can only imagine that some of your "privacy" addons might interfere with the sites' scripts that are also responsible in part for content scrolling, as the site in general appears to scroll just fine (trackpad, arrows, scrollbar), GIF attached:
Do you perhaps have another site as an example to look into?
I found this website, which uses scrolling, also has the same issue: https://bastioncycles.com/

These sites are all amazingly designed, well laid out, and honestly interesting to flip through — however they all seem to employ scrolling behavior based on timeline/progress and heavily relying on scripting. I tested them across versions and devices and they appear to work fine in general, but their specifics can have an impact.
There's two possibilities. Something tampers with the scripts. Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox to rule out any extensions, and also hardware acceleration.
Or right away the performance recommendations are causing trouble, the above will lead you there too but: Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems
Here's another site where I encounter scrolling issues: https://webmail1.earthlink.net/folders/INBOX
Yeah, I have cleared cache, cookies, history, etc. I have Firefox set to clear these things upon closing, and today I also did a manual clear.
I also read some instructions that tell me to use Firefox/Settings/GENERAL. I can't find GENERAL in the left pane when I am in the Settings function. (Maybe because I can't scroll down far enough????)
The same instructions refer to unchecking a box called "Use Hardware Acceleration When Available" -- can't find that one either -- not in the left pane under General (see above), or even when searching settings within Firefox. I will try to look at the hardware acceleration info link you posted above, but I have low expectations.
I have not tried "troubleshoot mode." This is terrifying to me because I don't know how to exit this mode. I do not want to get stuck in Safe Mode forever and then have to call my computer support people and use billable hours for them to get me unstuck from Safe Mode.
This post is an update on my previous (as yet unpublished) post. I have the same scrolling problem in the window https://webmail1.earthlink.net/folders/INBOX
I found a workaround that seems to work for now:
- Open the webmail message from Earthlink Webmail Inbox
- Choose PRINT
- See the print preview and print dialog
- CANCEL the print
- The screen returns to a secondary Earthlink Message view (not back to the Inbox). In this view, I can scroll through and read the message. (I could also read the message from the print preview screen, but I need larger type due to eyesight issues).
- After reading and/or printing, close the Earthlink Message view tab to return to the opened message.
- After returning to the opened message, return to INBOX so message can be deleted if desired.
This process works, the but question why the Earthlink Webmail Inbox (and Sent, and Drafts, and Trash) will not scroll remains. All that happens is the screen sort of jiggles when the mouse wheel is turned -- without the screen actually responding and scrolling. The scroll bar at the right doesn't work either, nor do the down arrows. Scrolling in Earthlink Webmail is not a problem using Microsoft Edge, but then this is sort of beside the point when I really prefer to use Firefox!
NO scrolling https://webmail1.earthlink.net In mail program. This worked last week and On 8/31/26, but had to reload page before it would scroll
