You should enrol in the W10 ESU program to get security updates through Oct. 2026:

The best option for AV is to use the one that is built into W10.
Many PCs that MS says 'cannot be upgraded to W11' can in fact be upgraded through a series of steps that are fairly simple and require nothing beyond the tools provided by MS.

THANKYOU very much, disabling anti virus did the trick. It was Avast! Do you know of a free anti virus that might not do this? Thanks again, Alix

Windows 10 still works fine and will for a long time. you can do a web search for free antivirus and there are several: AVG, bitdefender, avira, and others. I have seen many problems here with Avast. Good luck.
