After changing from POP to IMAP to fix the earlier delivery problem, I have lost the existing file structure, filters, etc. Comcast email is coming in fine but there are only 6 folders while there should be 47 and all the filters s are gone. I have tried rebuilding the current global-messages-db.sqlite file but it stops after 12 hours and was only 10% finished at 2 GB instead of the prior anticipated 16 GB. These are the Profile directories: 04/28/2025 12:53 AM 26,073 MB 3249x1co.default-esr-3 04/27/2025 11:30 PM 358,524 MB 6rvpjum0.default-esr-2 11/21/2024 09:29 PM 249,883 MB 6rvpjum0.default-esr-2_sav 11/21/2024 09:29 PM 6.3 MB dvldbfwi.default-release

How can I resurrect my file system and filters?

re :After changing from POP to IMAP to fix the earlier delivery problem, I have lost the existing file structure, filters, etc.

That would be expected because all your email, folders etc were in a Pop mail account which means they were stored on your computer. Pop account folders do not synchronise with the server, they are completely independent. The 47 folders were in the Pop account and not on the server.

You would have needed to create a completely new mail account and set it up as IMAP which uses different server settings. But you could do that in the same profile.

re:Comcast email is coming in fine but there are only 6 folders. Imap accounts can only display what is on server because emails are stored on server and imap folders synchronise with folders on server. So in effect you may discover only the emails in the Inbox display and anything the server thinks is spam gets put in the server Spam folder so you should see them as well. Some server auto save anything that uses their smtp server, so you might see sent emails in the server Sent folder.

Why have you got 4 profile name folders ? Have you been creating new profiles ?

Did you get the Thunderbird program download from the official website:

If yes, then access :

  • C://Users/username/Appdata/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles folder
  • post an image showing contents.

Also in Thunderbird

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • Under 'Application Basics' - near the bottom - Profiles - click on 'about:profiles'
  • It opens in a new tab.
  • Make window as large as possible
  • post/upload an image showing all the contents.

Also post this information:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • Scroll down to 'Mail and News Accounts' section
  • Either post an image showing all the data or copy paste all the data in that section and paste it into this question.

In 'Account SEttings'

  • Select 'Server SEttings' for the account.
  • Look bottom right for 'Local directory:..'
  • Either copy and paste the entire line into this forum question
  • OR make window wide enough to see all the data in 'Local directory' text box and then post an image showing the Account SEttings window.

I believe you were using Norton AV - do not enable the VPN because it will block access to server. So please check this has not been enabled.

Comcast use Xfinity server. Via webmail account - please confirm the third party client access option has been selected.

There is quite a bit of information requested, so work through it and offer the info requested.

Thank you for your helpful suggestions but I am unable to collect all this information. I would like to try another approach to resolve the problem.

I want to change back to using POP. I have a Thunderbird profile directory from last August. Can I simply replace the current one with it and change the server settings from IMAP to POP or is there something else I will need to do to make this work?

Current email version stopped working again. Here are screenshots of the current system which stopped working at 9:40 am on 5/31/25. Does anything stand out before I try to replace profiles and change back to POP tomorrow?

Thank you for your consideration.

You cannot simply edit the server settings in the comcast imap account.

You would need to create a new Pop Mail account for comcast email address. It would only be able to download any emails you currently have in the webmail account Inbox into the Pop account Inbox.

The 'Troubleshooting Information' for 'Application Binary' says you have not downloaded the Thunderbird program into the default location. Is there a reason for this ?

None of the images state what 'profile folder name' you are using as the 'Server settings' - 'Local directory:...information is not included.

The image that shows 'profile name folders' suggests you are currently using '3249x1co.default-esr-3-new' as it has the latest 'Date Modified' as 8th June 2025

For some reason you stopped using '6rvpjum0.default-esr-2' on 6th feb and created a new profile on same day called '3249x1co.default-esr-3'. Why did you do this ? What was wrong with the '6rvpjum0.default-esr-2' profile?

It also looks like you simply copied 3249x1co.default-esr-3' and created an identical profile but added '-new' to the name. That seems an usual thing to do especially if you were having a problem.

I was wondering if you had a POP comcast preciously created in any of those profile name accounts.

Please check each of the 'profile name folders' to see if the 'Mail' folder contains a Pop comcast mail account. Which - if any - contains a pop comcast account?

You could do the following to see what each profile name folder contains:

  • In Thunderbird
  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • Under 'Applications Basics' near the bottom is 'Profiles' - click on the 'about:profiles' and it opens in a new tab

Look for the various profile names and below each it will say 'Launch Profile' (except for the one currently set as default)

  • click on 'Launch Profile' and it will start up the another Thunderbird in a new window using that profile. Then you can see what it contains.

If no pop comcast or if it contains an imap comcast account, does it connect to comcast server ?

Otherwise, you would need to check manually in each profile name folder.
