Thunderbird will not write

Thunderbird no longer responds to a "write" when I click on the write button, it also does not come up with a new email page when I click on a link from a web page. I am not at all tech savvy with Thunderbird. This has happened today after a message from Thunderbird advising something about dark messaging.

There is a bug for the write issue. Make sure that you have set a default email account. click 'account settings' and there should be a star icon to the right of the default account.
