thunderbird gmail set up issue

When I add a gmail to thunderbird, after put in email address and password, the window enter credentials for ...gmail.com on imap.gmail.com come up, put in email address, it ends up in a dead cycle of enter email and phone but not move to password window for verification. I tried the newest thunderbird, remove the account and try again, all the same thing. Anyone know how to solve it?
