I've searched the user database and none of the answers work. I cannot change the font on messages I am writing. All I get is a mono font,. If I change it to the font I want, it doesn't work. I've restarted Thusnderbird after making the change, still get a mono font. I've rebooted my system after changing the font, I still get the monop font. WTF. This didn't happen until a recent alleged upgrade.

Can you provide troubleshooting info from your thunderbird install. Use this tutorial for getting troubleshooting info:

Also what fonts are you wishing to use? It may be more of a rendering issue of the OS or OS + Tbird not supporting that font(s).

re : If I change it to the font I want

Where are you making this change? Are you using the 'Formatting Bar' or setting a default in Options> Display ? What font are you trying to select? Post an image of your Options selection for 'Display'.

Mono font....... are you by any chance composing in 'Plain Text' mode ? In a new Write message can you see or enable the 'Formatting Bar'?

Check your composing choice for each mail account. Tools > Account Settings OR Menu icon > Options > Account Settings > Composition & addressing - select 'compose messages in HTML' click on OK see image below

You can still use Plain Text mode if you hold down 'Shift' when clicking on 'Write' button. It will only be Plain Text for that email.
