TB used to convey the Tags from a received message to a reply to it. It seems this does not work any more. Is there a way to have it back?

TB used to automatically convey the Tags from a received message to its replies. This does not work as of the latest update. Is there a way to reinstate this, perhaps as an option?

Thank you.

Thank you for the clarification. It seems that it is the add-on that stopped working.

I certainly hope that it will be updated.

Thanks for all the explanations.

Tags are something that is applied to only emails as they appear in Thunderbird. They are for your personal use.

There did used to be an addon called 'Tag toolbar' that allowed you to apply tags to emails you were sending, so attaching the Tag to the email, but that addon sadly has not been maintained recently and I'm not certain whether the recipient would also need to have been using it.

Thanks for the reply. My question was not about Tags being sent along with outgoing mail to the recipient, but for Tags to be kept with the sent message in the sent folder.

It used to work, and also, the Tags of an incoming message were conveyed to any reply message. This behavior disappeared a few updates ago. I wish it can be reinstated as it is very useful, at least to me.

Thanks again, Alain

re :My question was not about Tags being sent along with outgoing mail to the recipient, but for Tags to be kept with the sent message in the sent folder.

If you were applying tags in a 'Write' composing window then the answer is the same.

In standard Thunderbird, there was/is no ability to set a tag on an email in the Write composing window unless you were using the addon.

The addon (even if still enabled) will show the tags in a tag toolbar in the Write window, but they are useless. When using that tag toolbar addon several TB versions ago, when email was sent, the recipient may see tag on email, but a very useful addition was the saved to 'Sent' folder email would also show that tag.

However, since that addon seems to be no longer being maintained by author as requested fixes have not been forthcoming, then it will not work.

If you can see a tag toolbar in the 'Write' window - it is not standard Thunderbird - it is there due to an addon which does not work.

The only way to set a tag on an email is to actually select that sent email and set the tag. So, are you saying that if you click on 'Sent' folder and choose a previously sent email and then a set a tag on that sent email, it will not stick - keep the tag when you go back and look in Sent folder later on?

Just to clarify, this was the tag toolbar I was talking about:
