Do you have to have thunderbird open to get notified of new email?

Is there anyway to get Thunderbird to notify of new email without opening the email client? I have Windows 10 and was using Incredimail which notifies new email without opening the application.

Thanks.

I do not know of any software that works when not running. An email client does not know there is new mail on your providers server until it connects. It has to be running to connect to the server.
