Might have put you on a bum steer when stated that my mail server was Sky Yahoo, as my e-mail address is Microsoft Live Hotmail, with the server name smtp.live.com.

I to have issues with Live. I think their system is broken. What happens in Thunderbird issues a delete command when it downloads the mail. Live for whatever reason defaults to moving the mail to a POP folder under the deleted items on the Live web site. This is obvious;ly taking to long as the next time mail is fetched the mail is still in the folder to be fetches again.

One option is to change the settings on Live to actually delete the mail instead of move it. But I really do not know if that will work better as I decided long ago to just put up with the inconvenience.
