Bookmarks don't seem to be working. No bookmarks ICON, importing did not work;

I just started using Firefox. There is NO ICON on right side of toolbar plus when I go to Bookmarks there is nothing there,nothing in unsorted; I imported from Google according to instructions and also tried creating a bookmark from firefox using the Star icon, etc.;tried the troubleshooting but nothing is in the bookmarks library, unsorted or anywhere I can find.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
