How much clearer do I have to be? Version 6 freezes my computer! I want version 5.01, and I don't appreciate Mozilla weeding out all the links to 5.01.

Found it for you from a Mozilla web site. When you go to the link below you'll see this text: "Thanks for choosing Firefox! Your download should automatically begin in a few seconds, but if not, click here."

The words "click here" will be in blue. Click on the blue and then you will start downloading version 5.0.1.

FireFox 5.01

I just grabbed it so the link is working and good.

I rolled back to version 5.0. Here is a working link: FireFox 5.0

Working great again. Nice to have FireFox back as it was. Perfect!

I installed right over top of FF 6. Just that easy. No need to uninstall FF6 first in my experience on Win7 64x, Win Vista and WinXP computers of my family and friends.

edit: fixed linked instead of random unofficial download site.

Please keep in mind that 5.0 is not secure as it does not have the security fixes that 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2 has.

Was your problem the greying out of most of the address in the address bar? If so, you can disable that by going into about:config and changing

"browser.urlbar.formatting.enabled" to false.

Oh boy. Here we go. My PROBLEM is that no matter how much I Google, Mozilla has eliminated all links to version 5.01. I managed to find one link a few weeks ago. Version 6 crashes my computer, and freezes the cursor. I use this computer in my business, and I will NOT struggle with a program that creates problems.

I don't want fussy questions, I want that link. And so, by the way, do a lot of other people.

This was SO helpful. I am still looking. I want 5.01, not 5.0

  ftp.mozilla.org / archive.mozilla.org - files are in /pub/mozilla.org
Notice: This server is the only place to obtain nightly builds and needs to
remain available to developers and testers. High bandwidth servers that
contain the public release files are available at ftp://releases.mozilla.org/
If you need to link to a public release, please link to the release server,
  not here. Thanks!
Attempts to download high traffic release files from this server will get a
  "550 Permission denied." response.

How the heck do you navigate through this stuff? I'm not a programmer.

Sorry, I've never owned 5.01 nor seen nor heard of it before. I know that when a new "final" version comes out, I usually just download it (and save it) before I run the update. I know I update (or used to until I started having problems with 6.xx) every time a new release came out, but I didn't run across 5.01.

Now I'm curious. What was the change you observed in 5.01 that makes it important to you? Just curious. I'm doing great with 5.0.

I just located the change log for FireFox version 5.01 from 5.0. Nothing that matters if you are not running FireFox on Mac OS X 10.6 or 10.7. The following is the entire contents of the change log from Mozilla for FF 5.0 to FF 5.01

The latest version of Firefox has the following changes:

Worked around an issue in Mac OS X 10.7 that could cause Firefox to crash
Worked around an issue caused by Apple's "Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 5" where the Java plugin would not be loaded

The link to Windows version of Firefox 5.0 is in first reply post as all you have to do is pick your language.

MizLiz, just so you know on Windows and Linux the 5.0.1 is pretty much 5.0 anyways as the old 5.0.1 was for Mac OSX 10.5+ and 10.7 users in mind at time. In fact the Windows and Linux users using Firefox 5.0 never got a update prompt to 5.0.1 as a result.

http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/5.0.1/releasenotes/ The 10.6 in release notes was a typo as it was actually 10.5.

Mozilla has not eliminated all links as they host all release versions ever since it was known as Phoenix 0.1 readily available to public. Just that Firefox 5.0 does not have the security fixes that 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2 has and not recommended as a result. http://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html

Only 6.0.2 and 3.6.22 are updated.

5.01 was the last version that didn't give me any grief....

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile:

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

Do you have any notion at all how incomprehensible those "easy" instructions are? There's no way I'm going to risk messing up my work computer fiddling over profiles and plugins. Not all of us are computer whizzes. We just make a living with them.

@ MizLiz TY big time .. It now appears that Mozilla wants all of the end users to be non paid programmers .. Took my systems hat off in 1995 & just want to use a program that does not mirror IE..

more options

Not enough negative testing on FF6> looks like they just want to do the fast releases like Microsoft & then let the end users do the patch jobs.. I'm sorry I took the download for 6

more options

PS they should rename this "crash site" because that's all it does

You know what we need now? A way to turn off the annoying reminders to upgrade to version 6. Like "don't ask me again".....

more options

@MizLiz:

Go to Options > Advanced Tab > Update Tab > Under the heading " When Updates To Firefox Are Found "

o Ask Me What I Want To Do ( click on the radial button to highlight)

Is how I have it set up so they don't upgrade automatically.. Generally I ignore the updates since 4/5 disasters, but must have had my stupid hat on when I let the 6 in.. But they should have a "Don't Ask Me Again Until You Have Tested It With The End Users & Forget The Fast Release Garbage"..

Lord help this new laptop for all of this mess.. Downloading Chrome & will test that this FF6 too much like IE
