don't see a home button
trying to get to know and use firefox, upon reading some help pages I see that I'm looking for a home button (shaped like a house) But I don't see it?

It may be hidden by default, but you should be able to add it to your toolbar in the Customize View. Please refer to the linked article for the detailed steps.
