All Sync Data Was Removed Upon Password Reset

I submitted this as a bug report but I will also submit this here to see if anyone has any information or a solution.

After resetting my password, none of my sync data from before the install is there. Only the sync data from my laptop, but even on my laptop it no longer lists my old computer, it is as if my PC from before the new OS has simply been deleted from the sync logs. In fact, my sync logs only go back to the moment I changed my password. I am not sure how to proceed as it appears that there aren't even any traces of my sync from before this point.

It would be nice if I could get the old tabs I had open on my desktop before I changed my OS, but it's not exactly a "world ending" situation.

Hi

Data in transit between devices is cleared if you use the "forgotten password" method to reset your password to protect your privacy and security.

Do you still have your data on your other device?

When you login from changing sync password this can happen loosing sync data. Especially if the new computer doesn't have the same data before the sync the sync will remove data to match the current setup on the computer you synced from. Sync syncs all system and if there not the same what's not the same will be cleared out to match all new password synced system.

Also you want to read up on what "Sync" is and isn't when using for Firefox.

I mean all of my passwords, bookmarks, etc was NOT lost, so nothing really bad happened, but I guess I should have backed up my browsing session beforehand. It's my fault for not checking to see if resetting my password would upset the sync! Thank you clearing things up for me,

If you reset the password for the Mozilla account because you do not remember this password, then that will remove all data stored on the Sync server because this password is used to encrypt your data locally before it is uploaded to the Sync server and only this password or a possible recovery key you created earlier can decrypt this data.
