Why do Cross Site tracking cookies show up after I shut down the browser and restart? I have my history set up to delete everything when I close the browser so I'm curious why cross site cookies are apparently allowed to exist/function, even after a restart?

Do you keep tabs open to those websites as in that case session restore will restore the cookies for those tabs ?

The System Details show you run an older Firefox 121.0.1 version that is no longer supported with security updates.

Could you please update to the current Firefox 123.0 release.

Always stay up to date with the browser and already using 123.0.

I have Firefox setup to delete everything when I shut down the browser, for all time. I can restart Firefox and am immediately shown there's cross site tracking cookies. If Firefox is set to delete all cookies, history, etc. then why when I restart the browser are there cross site tracking cookies when I haven't gone to any website.

I run "New Tab Homepage" that is set to Yahoo.

Thanks

Firefox might check websites that show in tiles on the Firefox Home page. In a long past there were extensions that add special opt-out cookies to Firefox. I don't know if there still such extensions around, so you can check this if you see a lot of such third-party cookies.

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or if userChrome.css/userContent.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the Default System theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

Cookies aren't shown or show up unless you go looking for them.

Check "Manage Data" to see cookies and make sure the "Manage Exceptions" list is empty.
