Firefox freezing on quit
macOS 11.6.1 Firefox 95.0
I had the same problem early this year - when I quit Firefox, it takes maybe 15 seconds or more to actually quit or it doesn't quit at all. So, I have to keep doing a force quit.
There was no solution earlier this year except, I discovered, to completely uninstall Firefox and reinstall - which cleared the problem completely.
Except, over the last 6 weeks or so, the problem has returned.
Before I completely unistall and reinstalll, are there any suggestions to fix the problem, preferably permanently?
Thanks,

OK, after a week, having deleted webappsstore.sqlite at 3.3 GB, everything is still working fine and Firefox is quitting promptly and not hanging on quit anymore.
webappsstore.sqlite has reappeared but remains at a few MB in size.

Let's do some testing.
Start Firefox. Just let it sit there for about a minute. Then shut it down. Any problem?
Start Firefox using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh).
Again let it sit for a minute. Is the problem still there?

OK, if I open Firefox, let is just sit there for a minute of so and quit, it quits promptly.
If I start checking web sites, the time it hangs on quit seems to relate to how long I have been accessing various web pages.
This is the same if I start normally or in Safe Mode. Just been runnubg in Safe Mode for maybe 15 minutes, accessing sevral different sites an on quit it took perhaps 10 seconds to actually quit …

Use this new profile as is. Is the problem still there?

Yes - none fix the problem, however, I have two profiles:
49pnkrna.default which is only 47 bytes
oc29lyea.default-release which is 3.71 GB and the largest file in this profile by a long way is webappsstore.sqlite at 3.3 GB
I guess 49pnkrna.default is a leftover from some problem earlier in the year?
Oddly, webappsstore.sqlite seems to contain a lot of text from a language course my wife if following on Duolingo …
So, deleted 49pnkrna.default as at 47 bytes I doubt it was doing anything.
And also deleted webappsstore.sqlite which seems to have solved the problem of freezing on quit. And more generally, Firefox seems to be running rather more quickly. The new webappsstore.sqlite is just 131 kB.
I'll watch what happens, especially as my wife uses Duolingo.
Heres hoping.
