Using Firefox 26.0 and Windows 8.1, why am I having to reload pages - especially video clips (cnn.com)?

Frequently, when I try to open a web page, it will not load completely. Sometimes it will indicate that the page has loaded when it hasn't, so I have to reload the page - sometimes several times. Other times, it will show that the page is still loading, so I have to stop it and reload the page. The sites I notice most often are, of course, the ones I frequent the most - Amazon, CNN.com, Yahoo!, etc. Video clips from these sites are particularly annoying. Sometimes I can never get them to load. Sometimes they'll load, and halfway through will just stop. I've tried using IE, and don't have these problems, but I REALLY prefer Firefox.

If your having issues with web pages you could try some of these things:

Reload the web pages and try bypassing the cache.

  • Press "Ctrl + Shift + R"
  • Hold down the Shift key and left click the Reload button

If this does not work, you can try fully clearing the cache and cookies from the website that is causing the problems.

Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.

To clear the cache:

  • Firefox in top left corner > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

To clear the cookies:

  • Firefox in top left corner > Options > Privacy > Show Cookies >Search for problematic website>Remove Cookies
