Gmail and other sites stop functioning normally

This has happened to me with Pale Moon, and then I moved back to Firefox (23.0), which worked fine for a few days and then developed the same symptoms:

Google sites don't work correctly. Gmail shows the basic view, telling me to upgrade the browser. Google search doesn't show options, Google Play doesn't show a search bar.

MMORPG.com doesn't let me log in, complaining "Cookies not Detected".

Cookies are on (and are actually set by MMORPG.com, I cleared them and they were recreated) and Javascript is on, everything seems normal, and most sites work fine. However these two problems are enough to drive me crazy (in particular the Google sites problem).

Edit: I noticed that I have problems with some other sites.

You have a general.useragent.override pref that is corrupting the user agent.

  • general.useragent.override: undefined GoogleToolbarBB

By the way, I tried disabling GreaseMonkey, but that didn't help.

Thanks a lot. I followed the instructions on the second link, and it looked like I ended up without a valid user agent. I ended up reinstalling (without uninstalling first) and that helped.

Do you have any idea how such a corruption might happen?

The GoogleToolbarBB in the name would suggest that this had been changed by the Google Toolbar. This toolbar has already been a long time not compatible with the current Firefox release, so I don't know when you last had it installed.
