I would like to transfer the my profile from the old Firefox 3.6.x. to the newer Firefox 5. I have tried to do as explained in the guide of Firefox http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager i.e I have tried to copy the profile folder, but the problem is not solved. Then I have tried to find the file places.sqlite and I have copied it into the my Profile folder, but the problem is still here. What can I do?

Thank you

The main profile folder is here:

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

The other folder is the location of the disk cache and the phishing protection database (urlclassifier3.sqlite)

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

There is usually no need to restore this folder.

Every version of Firefox since v 0.9 in June 2004 will use the same Profile automatically without user intervention.

If you are upgrading from Firefox 3.6.x to Firefox 5.0, you shouldn't need to mess around with your Profile at all. Upon "first run" of the new version, Firefox will create whatever new files may be needed for the new version.

And, if you are "copying a Profile", you need to copy the Profile folder contents - the name of the Profile has to remain the same as what was being used, or Firefox won't recognize the Profile.

Are you using the same computer?

Make sure that you use the correct location of the profile folder.

Hi,

Thank you for your fast reply. I have already read the guide...I'm trying to import the data from old HDD that now is been formatted. I'm under Windows 7 and I have copied the folder under AppData/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefox/Profile/profile_name. The only my doubt is which folder I have to copy: this one AppData/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefox/Profile/profile_name. or this one AppData/Local/Mozilla/Firefox/Profile/profile_name?or both? Thank you
