TB 142
URGENT Version 142 for Windows 64bit is unstable. It freezes over after almost any action with usual Windows "Not Responding" message. Recommendation to Mozilla: Pull back this release and roll back to 141

For some inexplicable reason, as of 10 hours ago, TB "settled down" and is behaving normally. I had succeeded in compacting all folders in the account without it hanging. I suspect that at least one folder may have been corrupt or perhaps one of the supporting SQLite files. I'm wondering about global-messages-db.sqlite which is 565Mb and I suspect, maps the current state of the mailbox for fast access. Anyway, the problem is solved for now. Thanks for your assistance.

Others are not reporting that problem, so it may help if you share more information. Also, please do not post twice on same issue. thank you
1. I did not encounter this issue on V 141.0 or earlier. 2. Since our first correspondence, I uninstalled TB and reinstalled using a download from the TB site. I followed with a reboot. 3. My environment is Win 10 (64) fully updated. 4. There is some urgency to all this as use TB as my business email client. As I write, I notice that TB has stopped responding while open and doing nothing. 5. I have been using TB since version 1 without serious issues so I'm not one to complain lightly.
What further information would be useful?
Try again in troubleshooting mode. That will disable all addons and that may show where the problem is. I also use win 11 with no difficulties. VPNs and antivirus products also sometimes interfere. Just last week, a major interference by Bitdefender was confirmed by the vendor.
Personal suggestion: if your business relies on specific software, I suggest waiting at least six months prior to using any major update and also to provide a simple test base for every upgrade that you allow. One good tool for that is the portable version that allows easy testing on the same PC as used for production. Maybe I'm too cautious, but my career has been in software and few updates go perfectly.

I was glad to assist. If you're suspect on that global file, you can delete it and Thunderbird will recreate it.
Having the same issue. Freezing after a few minutes. Have tried compacting folders. Also I searched for global-messages-db.sqlite. It is not present in the active profile but I found it in a backup of my profile. Problem started on ESR so I changed to RELEASE, still have the problem.
Hmm. 1. If global-messages-db.sqlite is not there, start TB and wait a few minutes. It takes a while to rebuild. If it does not, then you have a different problem. 2. There are a few other things that you can do: 2.1 Clear the history cache. Does that help? 2.2 Do a shallow uninstall that just removes the app without touching profile files. The Win Uninstaller is fine. Delete global-messages-db.sqlite if it is present. Download the 142.0 release from the TB site and reinstall. When running TB, it should pick up your current profile and email accounts. 3. About global-messages-db.sqlite: During the period that I was having problems it was quite bloated, at about 550Mb. After deleting and rebuilding it as above, it dropped to about 115Mb.
Thanks for the reply Daniel. I did do your below tips. Problem is still there but global-messages-db.sqlite was 500mb and has come down to 25mb.
Is there a log I can check to see the last actions before it locks up?
I have copies of all profiles. I even tried downgrading and went down that rabbit hole but didn't help.
If TB does not point at my profile with a vanilla install it does not lock up.
I have 2 gmail IMAP accounts configured. Only added one of those recently before the V142 upgrade. Are there any issues with having 2 Gmail accounts configured?
TIA everyone

Fixed now, but previously tried upgrades, deleting files and letting TB replace them etc. nothing worked. Had to rebuild Thunderbird by: Start TB and before it froze, exported the profile. Made a new profile. Verified the new profile with no mail in it was stable. Imported the old profile. My problem may have been caused by Hibernating windows, as I was travelling and looking to save battery. Will close TB before hibernating.
Would be good if TB wrote a log so you can see the last thing it was doing before the freeze.
Hope it helps.
