Firefox says that it is now my default browser, which is what I wanted, but my browser is still duckduckgo, and firefox browser is not on the available list of browsers to select as default. I downloaded it. I selected "make it my default browser". But it isn't. It's still duckduckgo.

Hi, maybe you can try find more information or solution in the https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-your-default-search-settings-firefox support article.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the suggestion. It didn't work--but someone was saying that duckduckgo is what firefox uses as its default?! Idon't like i because when it gives its search results they appear on my screen in giant letters. It's some new thing they started doing. I don't know how to adjust it (I mean, I can but would have to do it every time!) This business of not being able to get rid of duckduckgo is also an issue apparently: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1309435

Hi Dropa -- I tend to conflate browser and search engine in my mind, I guess. What I want to get rid of is the Duckduckgo search engine. I tried to change it to something else and it won't let me. I went to duckduckgo's settings to select a more usable appearance (it gives everything in giant letters and fills up the page), I changed to other choices, I saved the changes--it didn't change. I closed the browser and came back. Still not changed. I refreshed, still not changed. I looked up how to remove duckduckgo from my pc. It's a whole buncha steps, some of which I don't know how to do. Absurd!

Thanks Dropa but I went to the extensions and Addon--but I don't find a manager there. Where is this manager? I found "Manage Your Extensions" but there's nothing there but more extensions to choose from. There's nothing that says "remove this extension". Or how to do that.

Mozilla has not used DuckDuckGo as a default search engine in desktop Firefox web browser. That thread was bout the DuckDuckGo extension you can install in Firefox.

Google is the main default search engine in most locales though some locales have their own defaults for search engines.

AFAIK there is no duckduckgo Browser you use it through another browser. Is there a DuckDuckGo web browser? In addition to its private search engine, DuckDuckGo offers a privacy browser app for iOS and Android
There are DuckDuckGo web browsers as you quoted about the iOS/Android versions. There is also a desktop version for macOS.

James, Mozilla has somehow made duckduckgo my default search engine. I tried to change to others on the list and it wouldn't go. It won't give up on duckduckgo. And theduckduckgo appearance with its giant lettering is so annoying.

Yeah I said browser before when I meant search engine.

If clearing the "Restore Default Search Engines" on the "Settings -> Search" page doesn't work, try to rename/remove search.json.mozlz4 in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed to rebuild the search engines registry.

You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page (Root directory).

Firefox will rebuild search.json.mozlz4 from the built-in search engines.
