Unwanted history items on homepage

I have a homepage set to only show Shortcuts (it appears some menus refer to these as Top Sites). After a recent update (100?), history items started to appear added at the end of the shortcuts list. Is this a bug? Is it possible to disable this?

I am running FF on Android, v100.1.1.

I am also having this problem and it definitely started with the v100 Firefox for Android update. The release notes mention:

"There’s a new section on your homepage that shows highlights from your history"

If this is what that means, this is very undesirable - I would like a Homepage with only the top sites that I have manually chosen to pin shortcuts. Please either provide instructions or add the ability to disable this behavior on the Customize Homepage menu, or fix if this is indeed just a bug.

Yeah, there doesn't seem to be a way to remove it. Its rather annoying, I have only pinned sites I want for a reason.
