Thunderbird and gmail quota reporting not working
I installed Thunderbird on my Mac with the sole purpose of emptying out most of my gmail account contents and archiving it myself. I was at 98% utilization of my 15gigs. I emptied out about 80% of all my email by moving them to a local folder that is stored on my Mac's hard drive. Gmail reported number of emails went down from over 80k messages to less than 30 thousand. Nothing is in my deleted items folder in gmail. All of this was done couple of weeks ago....now the problem...gmail still reports me at the same figures of usage, at 98% utilization and with just a few hundred megs left of my 15gigs of gmail quota. Are there any known problems with Thunderbird and gmail that does not trigger gmail to keep track of email that has been taken off line when moved to local folders like I have done?

Have you compacted the mail folders?
