Would setting up an existing email with Thunderbird export it out of the current provider or do I have to maintain both accounts?

Hi! I am not sure if Thunderbird simply displays an existing email account for ease of use and added features, or if it ports it over from the current provider. My question is whether I still need the original email account, or if I can cancel the service with the current provider and just deal with Thunderbird. Thank you in advance!

Thunderbird is email client software that runs on your computer and helps manage your email. Your email account comes from your provider. If you cancel your account with your provider you no longer have email service.
