Hi together, today my automatic update (bad idea) from 68.xx to 78.2 crashed my complete thunderbird installation on a macbook pro 2019 with catalina 10.15.6.

After restart I have only the local folder showing up and some archive which I generated locally.

All mail folders with subfolders are gone.

It seams to be a Problem in the profile, in the profile folder all files are still there.

I did backup the profile and afterwords tried with ´/Applications/Thunderbird.app/Contents/MacOS/thunderbird-bin -ProfileManager ´ to generate a new profile in the existing profile folder.

With same outcome that I see nothing else then the earlier named local folder.

Did someone had the same issue and if so could fix it ?

Thanks

This is an ages-old prob. for my use of t-bird, going back dozens of yrs (version irrelevant). Windows only, since I hardly use MacOS & don't know if prob. exists there. -In the "msg list" pane, I will put cursor on a message, to highlight & (click to) read its contents below in the "msg pane." Please note, another msg may already be in the "msg pane." That msg is already there from the last time I had opened t-bird. -I click on the highlighted msg in the "msg list" pane. It does NOT open. Instead, the highlight MOVES ITSELF to an "old" msg header in "msg list" pane (the header related to the msg previously opened before, as stated above). It's hard for me to express this, but easy to see. In the end, I have to move the cursor AGAIN (in "msg list" pane) to the desired msg I want opened. This has been endlessly irritating in a small way. Is there a fix for this? Thank you.

I have used Thunderbird for a while and had saved emails from a lineone account (I think it is an IMAP account). Until recently I had the regular folders available (inbox, sent, junk etc) for the account available in Thunderbird.

The actual email account itself was opened about 15 years ago and couple of years changed so I could no longer gain access to the email account but the old emails remained in Thunderbird as did the folders.

I now need to access some of the emails from the account that should be on Thunderbird but have found that all folders have disappeared except for the inbox, which is shown as empty.

I have searched for the emails in a global search on Thunderbird and it finds emails from the account but I cannot open the emails. In the global search the heading of the email appears and I can read the first 4 or 5 lines of the email before the next email appears in the box below. Hence, it appears the emails have not be permanently lost. Also, when carrying out the search it details the email account where the emails are found in the column on the left hand side of the screen and the account with the missing emails is shown there with a detail of the number of emails relating to that search in the account so the emails have not been deleted.

Can anybody help me to restore or access the emails from the missing account or to access the emails when carrying out the search.

Please note I only have basic knowledge of Thunderbird so if you could keep any responses in simple terms!!

Many thanks for your anticipated assistance

I apologize if this has been addressed already, but I searched the articles and could not find this specific issue. When I send an email to some Gmail accounts, the entire message becomes double or even triple spaced between each line. I'm not aware that this is happening until the I get a reply email, and see the insane amount of spacing. This only happens to some Gmail recipients. Other Gmail accounts format the email just fine, as it was originally sent. See examples below. TIA for any help to remedy this issue!

Hi guys !

I have updated the 78.2.2 version and deeply upset having done so :( i have been using this mailing system 24/7 being my bread and butter but seen a lot of defaults on this version.

firstly in my address book the lists that contain lots of recipients <<search is not working>> and when i scroll up or down the pointer the <screen>> goes snow white !!!!

secondly i used to drag and drop an existing contact from my address book into my several lists this is not longer working , i get the stop signal and i have to do it now manually.

thirdly when a sender was not existing in my address book i used to open up a new contact with his details, and particularly his mail address. then on the incoming mail screen the name of sender that i have had added in my book was by default changed and appeared in the correspondence column. now this is not happing longer :(

guys i love thunderbird and i cannot live with anything else have done so much work on it.

is there going to be a new release that will fix all those bugs ?? i am sure there are more to be discovered

thank you all #keepupthe goodwork

Hello,

Today I updated to Thunderbird 78.2.2 from 68.12.0.

My favourite extension, Account Colors, no longer works. It does not appear to have been disabled (although development and support for it has ceased), as it's in the Enabled section of the Extensions folder, and the "button" is highlighted blue. In the details, there are some recommendations I don't understand:

"It is recommended to enable these options: • 'Reinstate default hover and select styles' option for both Folder and Thread Panes. • 'Reinstate default hover style (on From menu)' option for Compose Window."

Does this mean I can make the extension work? If so, how?

Additionally, this newest version has other problems: - it takes several seconds to delete text after pressing the delete key - the text in the panes is too small, it's not obviously scalable - the grey blocks at the top of the new message window is distracting (I'll attach a screen shot to show what I'm referring to).

I'm finding this version of Thunderbird too buggy for my liking, and I'd like to roll it back to the previous version.

Could someone kindly tell me a simple way of how to revert to Thunderbird 68.12.0. I found this link http://kb.mozillazine.org/Go_back_to_an_old_version_of_Thunderbird, but it looks like it's a really old article, not to mention overwhelming and daunting for an average user.

I'm running OS X 10.11.6.

I hope someone can help. I'd like to get Account Colours back. The extension makes the task of keeping track of multiple Emails, easier. I don't want to be spending too much time reinventing a system that worked for me.

Many thanks in advance for your time.

Experiencing issues since upgrade to TB 78.2.2 (32 bit) about 5 days ago.

Toad-Hall had a successful fix for sending of message failed issue that required changing in Config Editor the TLS version. That enabled me to receive messages, but I get the following error when I try to send:

Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.glbb.jp timed out. Try again.

My web mail works correctly -- the issue is that TB on my laptop times out when attempting to send email

SMTP settings are correct for my ISP.

Appreciate any help to get this latest TB issue fixed.

I'm running TB 68.9.0 (Windows 10). I had a power outage 3 days ago and now I can't delete or move any messages from my TB Inbox. The outage also affected my folderTree.json file but that's been resolved.

I've tried the fix provided in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cannot-delete-messages. I deleted Trash and Trash.msf folders from the ...Profile\Mail\secure.fsr.com folder and then attempted to create a new Trash folder from within TB. But I get the error message "A folder with that name already exists. Please enter a different name."

Looking into my ...Profile\Mail folder I find multiple versions of my server (secure.fsr.com) folder (see graphic below). Maybe I've erased Trash and Trash.msf from the wrong version? I'm a little leary of just hacking away not knowing what these versions are.

So my questions are

1) Can you please advise on how I can once again move and delete emails from my Inbox?

2) What are these version folders for my server (secure.fsr.com) in ...Profile\Mail? Do I really need them all?

3) Likewise, what are the version folders for Local Folders, mail.pullman.com, and smart mailboxes? I know that my ISP changed the name of their server from mail.pullman.com to secure.fsr.com last spring. So the mail.pullman.com folders are probably a relic.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I am using a new freshly installed Win10. Since copying the profile from my work PC was not an option, I decided to just set up all my mailboxes from scratch. The first day, everything was fine, but starting from the next day thunderbird started crashing all the time. It will load, partially check the emails and then crash.

I waited for the latest update - didn't fix it. I removed the old profile, installed and set everything up again - and got the very same behavior. My thunderbird doesn't last even 30 sec working.

There are no addons or dictionaries. It's totally clean. There are only 3 mailboxes with a lot of emails in them. Please, advise how to fix it.

Thanks in advance!

I've recently begun migrating back to Thunderbird after a farily long hiatus.

My trouble is - when I added my largest IMAP email (GMail) I ended up with surreptitious emails in my local Archive directories.

The Archives are set up to archive into one folder per year. They only archive when I manually trigger it. At least, that's what it's supposed to do, I think.

When I added the GMail account, I ended up with a goodly handful of unread messages in the Archive folders. They're all dated from 12/31/1969. They're all completely blank. They specifically landed in the 2016, 2018, and 2019 folders.

So my question is - are these messages real messages? Are these other, older, intended-to-be-archive messages, are they overwriting what I have in the archives, or..? It seems that since they came out of the blue, that anything might be possible.

Thunderbird 81.0b4 64bit, Linux Mint x64, no extensions

I read rss/atom feeds in thunderbird, through the built-in feed manager. These articles are often tagged by the site/author with marginally terms like 'arsspectrum', 'arsAT&T', 'arst-mobile', etc. for a random article from Ars Technica. These tags are apparently retained in my user profile in prefs.js, quickly accumulating hundreds of tags and likely slowing things down. This is an odd behavior.

After realizing that I was not receiving emails that had been sent to me (over a period of 24 hours), my ISP tech support and I traced the likely cause to what may be a bug in the Thunderbird 78.2.2 update, that had installed itself on my computer exactly 24 hours earlier: the update had somehow rendered the ISP's email account Security Settings invalid, which prevented reception of incoming emails. The tech support had been receiving similar email malfunction reports from other users since September 10, 2020 -- which was when this update was first released -- and we tested the hypothesis by changing my Security Settings for this ISP email account to "none", which fixed the problem.

A security setting of "none" isn't ideal, so I would like to bring this issue forward to the Tbird tech team, to see if they are aware of it.

Thanks, in advance, for your support.
