I updated to firefox 8 last night - now I can't connect to the internet using firefox at all!
I had trouble installing the new version of firefox yesterday, too... I had to go to the webpage and do a manual install. Today I tried uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling it, but that didn't fix the problem.
My internet connection shows full bars and works just fine with IE, so this is definitely a Firefox-specific issue.
i had to resort to ie just to report this problem. what's up, firefox? i've never any trouble and have been using your browser for 5+ years.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
