I run windows 7 ultimate and always use Firefox. I think I must have downloaded a file from somewhere, now Firefox is not my default browser and tuxendo.search.com has taken its place. I removed all i could find of tuxendo but still cannot set firefox as the default. Please help

Please check if this works: This problem is usually cause by a program installed alongside a freeware or shareware. If that's the case all you need to do is to uninstall it using professional uninstall programs or Malware removers. Here are some programs you can use to delete the Malwares like that:
- Trend Micro HijackThis (Free Software - Free Download Here)
- Malwarebytes (Free Software - Free Download Here Free Download Here )
Both are trusted programs. In the first one you just find the suspicious program in the list and remove it and the second program scans your system for malwares and remove them.
If this helped you don't forget to hit the 'Solved it' Button so the topic will be closed.

i used a program called otl.exe which is something like hijackthis this scaned the hard drive and it found this
(Thunder Extension) -- C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ze9p43d2.default\extensions\{1B33E42F-EF14-4cd3-B6DC-174571C4349C}
I renamed the directory and then rebooted the computer and it is no longer a search engine and pest.
In the words of Doc Brown "it has been erased from existence"

To make Firefox your default browser
- Tools > Options > Advanced > General > "Check Now" > ...
but I think you meant your default search
In your search engines, use Manage engines at the bottom of the search favicon drop-down, then drag Google back up to the top.
The search engine used at the [Location Bar] is controlled by default.URL in which you will find in about:config and can change value to
steps:
- type about:config into the location bar
- filter on keyword.URL
- change value to http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=
next: filter on tuxedo.search.com and reset / replace any variable with that shows that as a single item value. If part of multiple urls for a variable you will have to be more cautious.

I do have this issue, but the remedy described here will obviously not help all users that are "infected". It requires a "Registry Hack" in safe mode (F8 during start booth) There are currently no antivirus definitions available to solve this, neither from ESET node32, Kaspersky Lab or Symantec Norton.?????? (when writing this anyway) I have not yet been able to “kick-out” this “infection”. One possible solution is to remove FireFox in both instances; safe mode and normal start up. I can not confirm this “remedy” yet.
ADMIN REG EDIT revoke! http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001097.htm

Possibel solutions, to access you registry, if it is under administrative rights only. Search any word, key or entry containing tuxendo, tuxedo or SearchToolbar remove it and reboot.(winXP.)
