Because my Bookmarks are not the same as those on Safari, there are times I would like to eliminate Firefox as the default browser.

You can change the default browser in Safari under preferences. Click on the "general" icon and make your selection from the pop-up menu.

As an alternative you can import your Safari bookmarks in to FF.
