My Inbox is empty but Thunderbird says that there are 4 messages in it.
I'm using the latest Thunderbird on Fedora 43, fully updated. Suddenly, Thunderbird is telling me that I have messages in my inbox, even though none show. If I receive an email, read it an delete it, the number of phantom messages increases. Compacting the inbox (or all mail boxes) has no effect on this. Any suggestions?

Try R. click Inbox > Properties > click 'Repair folder' button, then compact again.

Doing that made all of the phantom messages appear in my Inbox. Highlighting and deleting them made them Go Away. Thanx! Where do you find things like that so that people can fix things without having to ask here?

For those without knowing by experience, mostly by searching here and on the web.
The top result for a web search for 'this thunderbird messages in inbox but don't show' is https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1423535.
Interesting. I thought I'd done a search of earlier questions, but I probably didn't phrase it Just Right.

Just Right is the key, and it's not always easy to do. In general, the fewer search terms the better. Also, using + before a term can be helpful.
