Hi, the browser you posted with identified itself as Firefox on Windows, but your question is under iPhone/iPad. Could you clarify which Firefox has the problem?

For Windows

First, if you haven't already, please do a normal shutdown and/or restart of your system. Restarting Windows can help by freeing up locked files, completing any deferred updates, and resolving temporary file permission issues.

Next, if Firefox still has bookmark problems, could you let us know what you get when you run the "Verify Integrity" diagnosis and repair function. That's here:

Open Firefox's Troubleshooting Information page using any of these methods:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Help > More Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > More Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

Near the bottom, there is a section titled Places Database -- that's the file which stores history and bookmarks. Click the button labeled Verify Integrity. There may be a 10-15 second delay before results appear.

If all is well, the report that appears below the button should start with:

> Task: checkIntegrity
+ The places.sqlite database is sane
+ The favicons.sqlite database is sane
> Task: invalidateCaches
+ The caches have been invalidated
> Task: checkCoherence
+ The database is coherent

Does yours start out the same way, or say something else? You can select and copy the report, and then paste it into a reply post for review and comment.

I'm using it on my PC not on phone this just started yesterday sometime and I did not change nor delete any new files or delete old files I should say. The only thing I can do at this point is to reinstall Firefox. If you have a better idea let me know

My first suggestion is what I posted earlier today: restart Windows, run the Verify Integrity function.

Hmm, Verify Integrity should work. It certainly takes some time to get the report back, but I've never seen it take longer than 15 seconds.

That could indicate that the database is not healthy, but I don't want to jump to conclusions.

Will Firefox save an HTML Export file of your bookmarks? The steps for that are in this article: Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks. You can open that file as a web page to confirm that it seems up-to-date.

Other possible actions after you have that file as a backup:

(1) Try to restore an automatic bookmark backup. See: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer.

(2) Have Firefox create a new database. See: Fix "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional" error message.
