Lose all my tabs and sites upon reboot
Firefox has always maintained that current tabs will be restored after a reboot of the browser, and indeed that was the case for the first half-dozen years I've been a subscriber. That has not been the case for the past 4 - 6 months however. I have the correct Settings for this, so it is not on my end. Why do I always get a fresh Firefox browser whenever I update the version (which is quite regular lately . . . maybe a new version of Firefox every 3 weeks). Please help.

You need to exit the browser through the menu command or keyboard shortcut and allow sufficient time (say, 30 seconds) for data to be saved before restarting it.
Thanks Terry. I'll try it. However, this was never necessary before (for years of Mozilla use) so something is wonky.
COR-EL, thanks for this but again, I'd had the correct settings all along. And when it doesn't reopen with previous websites intact, I find no way to restore it except go into History (which only drops-down the more recent sites, and many of my tabs were loaded long before). I'll muddle along being more careful about accepting Firefox's frequent upgrades and new OS's. Again, thanks but . . .
You can try to restore the upgrade.jsonlz4 file from the last update or use a utility to browse Windows System Restore points to see if you can find a recent sessionstore.jsonlz4 file.
You can look at this tool to inspect a compressed jsonlz4 sessionstore file. This tool works locally, no uploading done.
You will normally find these files in the sessionstore-backups folder:
- previous.jsonlz4 (cleanBackup: copy of sessionstore.jsonlz4 from previous session that was loaded successfully)
- recovery.jsonlz4 (latest version of sessionstore.jsonlz4 written during runtime)
- recovery.baklz4 (previous version of sessionstore.jsonlz4 written during runtime)
- upgrade.jsonlz4-<build_id> (backup created during an upgrade of Firefox)
You can copy a file from the sessionstore-backups folder to the main profile and rename the file to sessionstore.jsonlz4 to replace the current file with Firefox closed.
- make sure to backup the current sessionstore.jsonlz4
You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page (Root directory).
- Help -> More Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Folder/Directory:
Windows: Open Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data
