Thunderbird keeps marking new emails as read

When e-mails arrived thunderbird marked as read. deleted it moved to recycle bin.Reinstalled all worked fine. Realised I had lost important e-mails , reinstalled from recycle bin problem returned . I keep reading about repairing ,cant see how . Thunderbird 52.9.0 .windows 10. How can I sort this out.

I really do not understand the question.

Usually when mail arrives as read it is because it has been read/dpwnloaded on another device like a phone.

I have nothing else with emails on , I deleted Thunderbird and re-installled , all worked fine until I realised I had lost important emails, recovered from deleted files Thunderbird and the same happened. Is there a way to run a repair programme from download ? is there a way to save all my e-mails, addresse etc so I can delete and start again ? Hope that makes more sense.

I have removed the emails from my phone and Ipad and still does the same.
