I recently did a refresh of the Mozilla browserwhich was recommended, but now whenever I open a new tab or window I have to log in to all my regular web sites.

I am experiencing a problem which seems to have occurred after I performed a refresh on the Mozilla browser. Prior to this when I opened a new window or tab I would be able to access sites which I had not logged off without a new logon every time. Now I have to login to every site which is ridiculous. It's as if the cookies are being cleaned out every time a new tab or window is opened. I can't find any settings which affect this. I want my browser to work as it did before concerning this. I can't find the person who suggested it, but this solution seems to have done the trick:

Chosen solution Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. • Clear the Cache and • Remove Cookies Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to. Type about:preferences<Enter> in the address bar. • Cookies; Select Privacy. Under History, select Firefox will Use Custom Settings. Press the button on the right side called Show Cookies. Use the search bar to look for the site. Note; There may be more than one entry. Remove All of them. • Cache; Select Advanced > Network. Across from Cached Web Content, Press Clear Now. If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). While you are in safe mode; Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar. Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration. Poke around safe websites. Are there any problems? Then restart.

Why did you do the refresh? Were there problems?

Cookies are sent by websites. They store site information including your login data.

Profile data can be removed or not recorded several ways;

  • 1) Running Firefox in Private Mode (nothing is recorded)
  • 2) Privacy settings; (Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar.)
  • 3) Many disk cleaners and anti-virus type programs can remove data from browsers. Open their settings and have them leave the browsers alone.
  • 4) Mal-ware.

I did the refresh in response to what seemed to be a Mozilla generated auto message, because it was running a little slow. I guess I didn't expect it to be a big deal. This issue does not relate to Private Mode (I rarely use this feature), and I don't really think it has anything to do with either a disk cleaner or anti-virus software as I have been using the same programs as before with no changes recently. It seems to correspond to the refresh although I suppose it is possible that it's coincidental. I am going to try I fix that I saw on someone with a very similar issue and see if that fixes it. I will let you know what happens.
