After updating from 3.6 to 14.0 there is a "dead space" down one inch from the top of the screen to the 2nd inch down. The screen looks normal but the cursor doesn't click in that zone across from side to side. When I reloaded 3.6 the "dead space" consisted of only the tab line. I used Norton to do a full scan and it said, after the scan was done, that it had fixed 96 items and things were now OK. But that didn't help with the problem IE works fine so the problem is related only to Firefox. I have search for 3 days thru the entire Firefox FAQ's and to no avail. Please HELP.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information. (or type "about:support into your address bar and press Enter)
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

There are two or three different extensions which have been causing that "dead space" problem.

Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there.
A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)

  • You can open the Firefox 4.0+ SafeMode by holding the Shft key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or use the Help menu item, click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled... while Firefox is running.

Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.

If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.

When you figure out what is causing that, please let us know. It might help other user's who have that problem.
