It may depend on the scenario and file type, see https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1389485 — does that sound it might apply to your situation, or you just get no prompts, no matter the associations and apps set to trust or open file types etc.?

Hi, do I understand correctly that you have "Save file" (or "Always ask") set in the Applications table for the file type(s) you are trying to save?
