Since forever, in order to get a bookmark to open in a new tab, using about:config, I change the setting to 'True' (browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInTabs), and even set to true, it doesn't always open in a new tab?

I have a new mac, an M4 mini, and I set up Firefox the way I want it (the biggest ask has always been getting a bookmark to open in a new tab). Two days in, sometimes a bookmark opens in a new tab, and sometimes it doesn't. I have nothing else set up except for an ad blocker. I have not changed my OS from Sequoia to Tahoe yet, I strategically delay. It's not the end of the world. But I had strange things happen with Firefox on my other mini (an M2) in the last 6 months and I had to abandon Firefox and use Safari, which I hate. But that's a whole other topic. I've used Firefox forever, and it's my fave, and little things like this bug me. What am I missing? I set the option to False, and then reset it to True, and sometimes it works as it's supposed to, and sometimes it doesn't. So to not overwrite an open tab that has something important, I just automatically click on the 'command' key when selecting the bookmark. It's staying on my selection to 'true' and I've set it to false and then set it back to true, and restart Firefox, and I still get inconsistent results. There's nothing else that could be conflicting with this. I don't get it. Like I say, Firefox on my other mini just totally became unreliable and I had to use Safari. Any ideas? Thanks!

"What do you mean when you say an 'overload' of configurations? "

No. If it is a new setup then ignore that. I meant that Firefox parameters that are stored can get too demanding and just don't work as desired. But with a new setup that wouldn't happen.

Have you tried a new profile to see if that works. It could just be an overload of configuartions with your current profile.

backup your profile before you try another, in case the 'overload' crashes anything

Thank you for responding. I just set up this newest Mac mini two days ago, and I've hardly used it. What do you mean when you say an 'overload' of configurations? I only changed one thing, the 'open a bookmark in a new tab' setting. If you could elaborate, I would appreciate that. Dave

Thanks. I thought that's what you meant. Well, worst case, I'll just press 'command' when I open a new bookmark. It's not the end of the world. It's just a feature that I always liked about Firefox and it was always reliable and now it's not. I think sooner or later I need to finally bite the bullet and upgrade to Tahoe. Don't know if that might alleviate this situation.

Well, now it doesn't work at all, it opens new bookmarks in the same tab, every time. Weird.
