Deleting message with attachment

Not all the time, but enough to be annoying. I delete a message with an attachment and get a message the the attachment will be deleted before I can delete the message. See following image. Running an iMac, 10.14.6. Thanks, Gary

Sounds and looks to me like you have the attachment selected when you press the delete key. Hence the attempt to delete the attachment.
