Has update to Firefox 115.1.0esr (64-bit) broken things for other users as well? The update applied itself about 20 minutes ago, and then I tried to log in to my Hostinger account. Instead of the two-factor authentication kicking in as normal, I got a message about a Captcha check failed - even though there is no captcha.
So I went to google, typed in my search term, hit return, and instead of google going searching, I got a new line in the search box!
Google Chrome browser (which I hate) is still working fine. So is someone going to fix this? (I seem to get daily messages from Firefox about a new update available), so hopefully....
Sorry about the confrontational tone - I'm from an era when software was tested before it was released, not released and then fixed daily! And that was a bitchy remark too!

Hey there, I totally get your frustration with the recent update. Sometimes updates can cause unexpected issues. You're not alone – a few users have reported similar glitches after updating. Here's what you can try: First, let's clear your browser cache and cookies, this often helps with strange behavior. If that doesn't do the trick, you can consider restarting Firefox in Safe Mode to see if any add-ons are causing the trouble. And if all else fails, a simple uninstall and reinstall might resolve the issue.

A Windows 10 user mentioned that specific symptom after installing Firefox 116.0.1 today. Maybe there is a common thread between your configurations? One possible issue suggested in a reply there was using the Adblocker Ultimate add-on.
Hi, thanks for the replies.
I AM using adblocker ultimate, but the problem seems to have gone away so far today, but that is after I went back to an older version, had issues that I couldn't use the older version with a newer profile, so I had to create a new profile that was a blank slate.
Not doing that! After that I lost track. Renamed the profile folders to get everything back, but that may have also involved running a firefox update.
Duh! That cost a couple of hours and a lot of bad language!
So I'm now running 115.0.3, and ignoring the firefox suggestion to update!
Hopefully in a couple of weeks the update may have sorted it out. Meanwhile I'm nervous!
But if it happens again, I'll try the safe mode and disabling adblock ultimate.
But if I do a "simple" uninstall and re-install, will I have to set up all my add-ons and preferences from scratch? I couldn't find anything obvious about importing a profile.
And just to further complicate life, there seems to be a different login route to this page today - one that uses a different password? Weird!
Regards
Steve

Hi
We are currently looking into this issue with respect to Adblocker Ultimate. Until it is resolved, I suggest that you temporarily use a different content blocker and we will come back to you with news when we have it.
Hi Steve, what do you mean by "simple" uninstall? Normally, the uninstaller can remove Firefox without removing your profiles; deleting data should be optional. If you're not sure, make a backup:
Hi
I understand that we may have a fix for this problem.
- Open AdBlocker Ultimate from the toolbar icon and select Settings.
- Next, select the Filters tab in the page that opens and turn off the Security option.
- Close the page and then repeat the process, but turning the Security option on.
Does this help fix the issue?
Hi Guys, thanks for the responses.
Jscher2000 - I'm not sure what was meant by a "simple uninstall" but suram080 used that phrase, so I quoted it. In "the good old days" I felt involved with decisions like that, where installers and uninstallers would actually ask what components you wanted to install (MS Office for example), and whether you wanted to delete older versions when installing new versions, or delete data and profiles etc...
Sadly, those days have gone, and too many software writers seem to assume they know best, (MS again!) and they have taken these options away. So I don't really want to test the firefox uninstaller without some assurance that I'm not going to have to go back to scratch - which you seem to have given me, thanks!
As for the backing up and restoring of profiles, I hadn't seen the page you reference, but that is what I did, except I just created new profiles under in the main profile folder. Should have worked and did.
Paul - switch off security settings from the adblock ultimate settings and then switch it back on again. I could do that, but I'd have to run the update again, as I'm now on the older version (115.0.3) and it's working properly.
The urgent thing I wanted to do when firefox started playing up is done, and I have a couple of workarounds, so I COULD do that if you like.
Would you like me to? It'll be tomorrow.
Regards
Steve
Hi Steve, as long as everything keeps working, I suggest waiting another day or two to see how the situation evolves. The Firefox 116 users who don't want to completely disable Adblocker Ultimate can test the workaround.
