Have 15 Users accessing TB via Tsplus (RDP); all working 100% prior to update to 68.3.1 from 68.3.0 Mail is on own hosted Koozali (SME) Linux Mail Server, using in may sites; other sites TB not updated Attachments wont open. Tried removing all Attachment points: tools/options/attachments Open Attachment, asks what App. to use, select correct App, tick box, "always open..", OK

 Attachment Opens

Close TB Open TB wont Open attachments Tried Repair on folders (Right click Folder / Properties) Close TB Open TB wont Open attachments.

Deleted Thunderbird from User\appdata\local & roaming Recreated TB - basic i.e. no addons. Close TB Open TB, wait for mail to completely download; wont Open attachments.

This link has ppl complaining of the same / similar issues; https://www.reddit.com/r/Thunderbird/comments/edi1o8/mozilla_thunderbird_6831_update_buggy/fd9mlq6/

Anyone know how to fix this mess, going deaf with the "very loud noises from the Users"

As has been said elsewhere V68 broke all the addons - gotta ask why the upgrade was so destructive ?

Thank you for reading and any assistance.

Terry

Do these attachments have spaces in the file name? There is a bug that should be fixed soon in the next release:

Not only spaced names but continuous names regardless of the extension; e.g. remittances.pdf; mmemfax_4815613832.Sendmail.pdf; M125309.pdf; purchase order report.pdf; Purchase Order 4598711654 6004.pdf

Since you get the same results with a new profile, I doubt there is anything wrong with your setup. Wait a few days for the next version, and in the meantime just save attachments and open them outside of TB.

If the problem remains, one thing to consider is that when you set the helper app for an attachment type, instead of picking the app from the list in the window or the Default app, click Browse... and select the exe directly.

SFHowes; thank you for your quick response. I'll do as suggested.

I am using version 68.8.0 on Ubuntu 20.04 and have similar problems. I can not open word of excel attachments. Had the same issue with PDF files, but this was solved when I installed Adobe Acroread.

When I double click om a attachment Libreoffice starts and then quits with the following error message:

/tmp/mozilla_peter0/name_of_file.docx does not exist.

I get the same with excel sheets, powerpoints etc.
