I frequently visit an IP address to remotely control my heating. The address is numbers only, beginning "192" (like a router address). Suddenly, I am no longer able to access this - "server not found". I have not changed any preferences on my computer. I didn't manually update Firefox, though it may have done so automatically. I could only access this address through Firefox (not safari, etc, because of javascript???) I updated javascript, just in case - didn't help. I tried re-loading firefox - didn't help. Tried downloading previous version of firefox - didn't help. The IP address hasn't changed (I checked with the heating company). At my wit's end! Help very much appreciated. Thank you.

Is it working on a different browser?

thank you for responding to my query - appreciated! historically I've only been able to connect to my heating via Firefox, not safari. someone told me this was because of javascript... I've never been able to do it on safari (though I use safari for all other browsing). Downloaded "opera" browser yesterday, but it didn't connect on that either... any more suggestions welcome! thank you

Gonna ask the geeky questions now:

192.x.y.z is LOCAL connection and you mentioned remotely controlling said heating controls, Are you attempting to connect while on the same network?

If not, are you connected (ideally securely) to said via ssh/vpn/remote desktop client to allow for said connection/controlling?

wow, it's early where you are! thanks again. I think the latter. It's an address held by the heating company that I access remotely. I spoke to the company, they said they could get on the page, and tried to talk me through connecting... but it didn't work. So now they say they can visit for a massive fee of hundreds of pounds, which I'm trying to avoid, given that I think it's an internet connectivity problem, and not to do with the hot pipes and infrastructure here!! the IP address for my computer here is different to the IP address for the heating controls home page, if that answers your first question (from one not as computer literate as you!!)

Is there like a url you can enter like how some routers or devices can have??

For example I just got upgraded to a new modem/router today and it took over the 10.0.0.1 used for my netgear wifi router. I could get back on after I used http://www.routerlogin.net and it changed the IP access to the netgear router.
