FF laggy and unresponsive
Lately, FF has become laggy and unresponsive on some web sites, notably E-bay. When this happens, even changing tabs is a problem, with a sometimes long response time. Entering data also shows significant lag time between keyboard entry and response on screen.I do not have this problem with chrome or with the Win10 browser even when they are all open to the same web page.
FF version is 48.0.1.

It seems to be getting worse and worse. Freezes, jerky, unresponsive - now on most web pages.
I've gone to chrome in the interim, it works fine, as does MS Edge.
What gives, with what used to be a very good product?
