Advised to update Flash; Firefox blocked the updates. How can I install updates?
I have been advised to update Flashplayer. When I have attempted to do this through Ff, Ff has blocked the update. So I went to Adobe. It now appears that I have successfully installed update 184.108.40.2067 directly from Adobe, today. It is listed in All Programs. Yet I am still getting a message that I need to install or update Flash. From two different sites.
What is going on?

And apparently Flash player 18.104.22.1687, installed to day.

Your system details list doesn't show the Shockwave Flash plugin as installed and enabled.
- Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins

You can verify on the Adobe Flash Players Test Page that the Flash plugin is working and which version you have.
Also make sure Firefox is closed first before installing Flash to minimize chance the older version will still be listed along with current.
The most recent update to Flash is now listed in All Programs, from which I infer that it is installed. It is not disabled. Of course when I initialy tried to download the update, the previous, now obsolete version was installed. Firefox had disabled it.
Flash is only installed properly if you see the plugin listed as Shockwave Flash plugin in Add-ons > Plugins (about:addons). Firefox is a 32bit application and needs a 32 bit Flash version. Firefox normally checks the Windows Registry to find installed plugins
Am trying to reinstall Adobe Flash, with no results. Am using Win 10. PLEASE HELP. as I do need to use it!
Hi daisy, I'm not sure what you mean by "with no results."
In case you are having a problem with the standard "small" installer that connects back to Adobe for additional files, you could try the full/offline installer from the following page:
Ignore the message at the top and scroll down to the first table. On the row for "Firefox and Netscape Plug-In compatible applications – NPAPI" you can choose either the EXE or MSI installer, either will work.
After running the installer, check Firefox's Add-ons page as follows. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. On the right side, look for "Shockwave Flash". If it is disabled, it would be toward the very bottom on a gray background. Set it to either "Always Activate" (sites do not need your permission to play Flash) to "Ask to Activate" (sites need your permission to play Flash).
About "Ask to Activate"
When you visit a site that wants to use Flash, you should see a notification icon in the address bar and usually (but not always) one of the following: a link in a dark gray rectangle in the page or an infobar sliding down between the toolbar area and the page.
The plugin notification icon in the address bar typically looks like a small, dark gray Lego block. (If it's red, Flash needs updating.)
If you see a good reason to use Flash, and the site looks trustworthy, you can go ahead and click the notification icon in the address bar to allow Flash. You can trust the site for the time being or permanently.
But some pages use Flash only for tracking or playing ads, so if you don't see an immediate need for Flash, feel free to ignore the notification! It will just sit there in case you want to use it later.

The about:plugins page should show information about all plugins. If that still doesn't show the correct Shockwave Flash plugin version then it is possible that there is a problem with the pluginreg.dat file.
You can try to delete the pluginreg.dat file in the Firefox Profile Folder and maybe addons.sqlite as well to reset the plugin registry databases.
