I'm not sure what I did but for the past 4 hours whenever I hit a random letter on my keyboard, the browser scrolls up and down and whatever I'm typing is rearranged and moved. Is it Firefox or might it be my laptop?

Did you try to close and restart Firefox or reboot the computer?
Yes, I have. I have also uninstalled and then reinstalled Firefox
You may have turned on caret browsing <F7> by accident.
Caret Out {web link} Disables change of the caret browse mode by shortcut key(F7).
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
