Firefox crashes in the safe mode, no crash reports submitted, and win8.microsoft.com
Several days ago my IE and my Firefox browsers suddenly changed the start page to http://win8.microsoft.com/ When the page started, both of the browsers tried to went to this page, and always came with "can't find the server". When I tried to change it back to the blank page, they still used http://win8.microsoft.com/ as a start page.
Then I use spybot and removed something called SweetIM. IE went back to normal and never tried to go to http://win8.microsoft.com/ Firefox continued going to http://win8.microsoft.com/ and started crashing. Every time I open it, it says that it could not be loaded, and that Windows is working on this problem, and it closes again. It does so in safe mode also. A couple of times I managed to open it as administrator, and it still tried to go to http://win8.microsoft.com/ I uninstalled and reinstalled it several times, but it still did the same. I used the manual here to check for crash reports. In the Firefox folder, the "Submitted reports" folder was empty. I typed "about:crashes" and got "no crash reports were submitted". What should I do now? Please, help.

Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Download and Run TDSSKiller http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363
Download and Install Microsoft Security Essentials http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials (not an official endorsement, but I personally recommend MSE as an awesome permanent anti-virus)
Double check for all Windows Updates.
Then Reset Firefox again.

First, try to reset Firefox. Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings. This simple step will eliminate many Firefox problems with only one click.
A few other basic trouble shooting things you can try is this: Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.
Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL
Update all your plugins (Flash, Java, etc.): http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/.
Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. http://www.malwarebytes.org/. This helps check that there are no viruses on your computer causing issues. You can uninstall this program after you clean off any infections.
Did you check the connection settings to see if a proxy is used?
Check the connection settings.
- Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection > Settings
- https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Options+window+-+Advanced+panel
See "Firefox connection settings":
You can also check the DNS settings
Thank you very much, people, for your answers and support. I found a
virus on my computer, some Trojan, and removed it. Then I found and unchecked "Use proxy" in Advanced options. As for now, firefox is working, but it's still going to http://win8.microsoft.com/ when I open it, and I can't get rid of this! I wonder what this win8.microsoft is.
If you reset your home page to something different, does this take care of the win8 page? How to set the home page
No, no matter how many times I reset, and I did that "reset firefox" thingy as well, it always turned back to the win8 start page.
