Ghost Folders from Exchange Server

Hello,

My work uses Office 365 for email, but I much prefer Thunderbird to Outlook, so I connect via IMAP. I am finding that dozens of folders I have deleted reappear in the Thunderbird folder list as italicized, and then when trash is emptied they persist in Deleted Items italicized as well.

I also use Google Workspace in Thunderbird and don't see this issue. I have set up new profiles from scratch on multiple machines on Windows, macOS, and Linux. The problem always returns.

My sense is that the italics represent old subscriptions to folders that no longer exist. The IMAP subscriptions are enumerated somewhere that is inaccurate and/or corrupt so that unsubscribing or deleting is ineffective (i.e. Thunderbird lists the folders that O 365 says are subscribed to, but O 365 can't delete folders that don't exist).

I have been in this job 29 years, which is to say I have a lot of mail, and a lot of folders, and a lot of folders that have been deleted when names of departments changed over that time or people retired. I am willing to accept that Microsoft's IMAP breaks when you have more than X folders or Y messages.

I started off asking our O 365 admins "I don't know how to do this, but is there a JSON or XML or something that lists IMAP subscriptions that can be deleted so I can start fresh?" They didn't know, so now we have taken up the issue with Microsoft. They insist the folders are not in the mail store, which I don't dispute. They have also suggested it's a Thunderbird issue. This makes no sense, since how Thunderbird wouldn't know when I set up a new profile, for example, that I once had a folder called Vendors with a sub-folder called Polycom, unless O 365 listed it.

I am ready to save all the email and ask the O 365 admins to create a new account for me, assuming that I had too many folders and broke my mail store in way that nobody seems to know how to fix. Microsoft suggested I post here first.

Is anybody here familiar enough with O 365's IMAP implementation to know how to reset a mail store's IMAP subscriptions?

Sometimes, after renaming an email folder, that folder becomes unchecked in the list of folders for syncing and downloading emails to your computer. Why is this?

I have filters set up for copying and moving my messages. My access to my message servers is IMAP or OAuth2. There is inconsistent behaviour for copying messages to my Local Folders. For some messages the body of the message is not copied. I have found that sometimes when there a two or three messages from the same sender that only the first is fully copied. (When moving messages to folders within one of my email accounts this problem does not seem to happen.) I include a copy of one of my filters to show how I have set them up. Can anyone help?

I am on the release channel and have 139.0.2 (64bit) installed on my main computer and my laptop. Up until recently I have been able to right click on Local Folders and select "Mark All Folders Read" and all mail within all my folders are marked read. Now, however, when I click "Mark All Folders Read", I get the confirmation box "Are you sure you want to mark all messages in all folders of this account as read?" but when I click OK, the box disapears but nothing happens at all to the folders. Please help as I use this feature alot. Thank you for your time Paul Stear (appjaws)

I am missing some sub folders and also can not create new subfolders. A saved profile does have those subfolders in it but will not show in thunderbird. When I try to create subfolders the "Create Subfolder" is greened out. I have a very old profile from Windows 10 but Idon't what to use it as I would lose my latest emails which are important. What parts of the thunderbird program could be causing this and how do I get my subfolders to show in Thunderbird if they are in the profile.

Hello,

I write because today I found that many email which were saved on some local folders have been deleted I did not that, and cannot figure out how that could happen I checked the Thunderbird setting for retention but found nothing useful I have set the option "Don't delete any message" at any level

Now I need an add-on for Thunderbird which herlps me to undelete the lost messages When I select any local folder's properties it shows me that the size of the folder is not zero, altough the folder appears to be empty That means that the deleted messages are still on the disk Could you please point me to any add-on or package for Thunderbird which can undelete deleted emails ?

My Thunderbird version is 115.18.0 (64-bit) on Linux Ubuntu 22.04 LTS

Thank you for your attention and support

A mail folder appears suddenly corrupted. The imap folder in question is duplicated but both folders are empty. In my Profile Folder the three associated files/folders have been duplicated - the new variants have weird file names. See screenshot.

If someone can advise on the best strategy to fix this I would be most grateful!

Thank you

In the past I have had no problems creating email subfolders for the various accounts I have configured. Specifically, my folder structure hierarchy for the problem at hand looks like this:

MyAccountName |- Templates {what is this? A system folder?} |- Expected subfolder A |- Expected subfolder B |- etcetera

When I try to create a new subfolder directly under MyAccountName (right click on MyAccountName > New Folder), Thunderbird creates the folder, but as a subfolder of the account inbox. I can't drag it from my inbox down to MyAccountName. I don't want it as an inbox subfolder, I want it in line with the rest of my subfolder hierarchy. Does this weird "Templates" thing have anything to do with it? And what am I doing wrong?

We use multiple emails that share the same folders. I have been trying to sort the emails using filters, so obviously I have to create the folders prior to sorting. Is there a limit on the number of subfolders each parent folder can have ?? If not what is causing it to not allow me to create the folder? when I say will not allow I am referring to the create button being grayed out and if I change the name of the file and it ends up showing me the create folder button and upon hitting the botton the pop up screen disappears but it does not create the folder. can someone please help me resolve this issue
