I do not see where the config is to set a longer timeout.

Everytime I do an attachment even only 2mb it timesout and can't send. I can't find the config to set a longer timeout.

Try changing Mailnews.tcptimeout - I think the default is 100. try 250.. Also, check that your antivirus is not interfering with thunderbird as that can delay processing.
