Where are my bookmarks?
I had updates turned off because they generally cause more harm than good. For example I lost my entire Thunderbird address book last August due to an "update" that didn't solve any problems ... just made Thunderbird unusable.
I had the Firefox updates turned off. Yesterday ... [poof] ... they turned themselves on (just as Thunderbird did) and I was updated. Now Firefox is corrupt and basically unusable. The bookmarks are gone and I'm forced to use a browser interface that is not like I prefer to work. Is there a way to revert to yesterday's version?

Hi ejstruan, sorry to hear the update was so disruptive for you.
Could you do a little more troubleshooting on the bookmarks problem.
Bars and Buttons
First, please turn on the bars/buttons you normally use to see whether those show your bookmarks.
Bookmarks Toolbar
You can use any of these methods to show the toolbar list and select the desired bars there:
- right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank spot on the tab bar (or the "+" button)
- (menu bar) View > Toolbars
On Windows, tap the Alt key to activate the menu bar temporarily. - in Customize mode > Show/Hide Toolbars (see: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars)
To turn on the Bookmarks Toolbar, Menu Bar, or other bars, click it on the list.
Bookmarks Menu Button
There is a "real" bookmarks menu button for the toolbar. You can add it from Customize, or use the "Library" button as described in the article linked below:
- Bookmarks in Firefox - section entitled: How do I add the Bookmarks Menu button to the toolbar?
Library - Restore Backup
If the Bookmarks Toolbar and Bookmarks Menu Button only show the default bookmarks that a new user would see, try restoring a backup. This article has the steps: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer.
Can you get your bookmarks back?
Regarding the previous version of Firefox, Firefox 56.0.2 was released on October 26, 2017, and Firefox 57.0 was released on November 14, 2017. If your user interface looked completely different before, perhaps you were running Firefox 56?
You can check your update history on the Troubleshooting Information page. Either:
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
- (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
- type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter/Return
In the first table on the page, look for the "Update History" row and click the "Show Update History" button. What does that indicate about your previous version?
Please note that some file formats change during program updates, and it may not be possible to retain all data when rolling back to an earlier version. For example, browsing and download history may be lost if you roll back to a version earlier than Firefox 56.
