I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 24.04 to 26.04, using Mate Desktop and Compiz compositor. I am using Firefox from the Mozilla Team PPA, currently 150.0.1. I am running custom kernel built from upstream source, currently 6.18.25. Hardware is a home brew CoffeeLake machine, i7-9700k, 64G of RAM, 2TB WD Black SSD and many TB's of spinning rust, graphics is Intel ARC B50 Pro, ASUS XONAR SE 5.1 Channel 192kHz/24-bit Hi-Res 116dB SNR PCIe Gaming Sound Card. Prior to upgrading Firefox was not 100% occasionally tabs would wedge, now if I get two hours I'm doing good, I've tried disabling extensions and plugins no help. Tried with and without hardware decoding, worse without but bad no matter. Any suggestions how to get stability back?

During the last week or so I have encountered the issue that one or more of my Firefox profiles keep resetting after every update.

I noticed there's couple of threads with similar issues already but the generic profile restore instructions are not helping at all since it seems that Firefox is actually wiping the default profile on every update.

I'm running Firefox 150.0.1 for Arch on CachyOS.

After an update when I click on my default profile in the selector, I get greeted with a completely fresh Firefox install. There's no extensions, it's not logged in to my account and no browser history. The edit profile button shows a pop-up "Firefox is already running but not responding--".

If I try to switch profile via the Account button on top, I get another pop-up stating "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."

I do not have the clean session after closing Firefox set on.

I followed the instructions to see if I can restore or recover my profiles.

  • I can find three profile directories under $HOME/.cache/mozilla/firefox
  • In $HOME/.config/mozilla/firefox there are matching linked directories for the profiles
  • The broken profiles seem to have broken link, ie. no target in /run/user/1000/psd/<profile> is not found

Searching for the profile that should be under /psd/ doesn't seem to yield any results, meaning it's been wiped after the update.

Additionally, I've disabled extensions as well, cleared the cache. I've disabled play DRM content and restarted the browser before turning it back on. I've changed from my own dns server which I see nothing being blocked to google public dns and saw no difference. Everything was working fine on Wednesday night and stopped on Thursday.

Since a few days (last week of April), when I go to Amazon Prime Video, once I log in, the thumbnail no longer display (see attached screenshot). However, when I arrive on Prime, before logging in, the thumbnails are there (but they might be actual images and not thumbnails). As soon as I log in, all thumbnails disappear and all I have is a text (might be the Alt-Text option for images).

It was working fine over the past weekend. I had a Firefox update at the beginning of the week. I think it somehow messed up my settings.

I tried several things: - clear cash (it clears everything when I close Firefox) - used different privacy settings (was at Strick) - added www.primevideo.com as exception in the privacy settings - was always use private window - had not installed any extension nor plugins - DMR was ON - most of every options were set to OFF or disabled

I tried to reinstall it through Snap Ubuntu 24.04 and it worked but the next day, the problem was back.

I installed Crome and out of the box, the thumbnails are there.

Dell desktop running Mint Mate 22. Bookmarks missing about 50% of bootups. Saved bookmarks to both HTML and JSON during an occasion they did appear, when they next were missing attempted to restore them via Library pop-up (Manage bookmarks). I could not determine a path to direct the system to either locally saved file. In Library, selected Restore, which then asks me to choose file, but none of the data fields accepted or acted upon input. re-installed Firefox but same result. Then clicked on the saved HTML file, multiple screens flashed on the display, with multiple items in the tray. The final result was the bookmarks were all displayed as expected, but since the problem has been inconsistent, unknown whether they will display on future bootups.

Wish to have guidance on using the Library pop-up to restore saved bookmarks when they are missing. Perhaps some knowledgeable user could post a step-by-step through the restore process.

When uploading files with Firefox, I click the upload button, and the file browser window appears to upload files.

For as long as I can remember, it always defaulted to the last folder location that I uploaded a file, but just a few days ago, it stopped working, and always defaults to my home folder.

How can I make the upload window pop up, default to the last uploaded location? My OS is Linux Mint Cinnamon.

I am using firefox on linux since ~10 years. Currently running latest FF on Kubuntu. I always had setting set to forget all cookies and session details except of search history on exit.

Since approx 2-3 weeks (latest update?) those settings don't work. FF remembers everything regardless of settings I chose.

Does anyone have idea why this is happening now and how to fix it?

I use Linux Mint and I have been experiencing numerous system crashes involving Firefox which requires a cold boot. What is the problem? How can I debug this? Are you getting crash reports?’

This happens several times a week. It has happened continuously tonight since installing the latest update via the Software Manager.

The program causes a total freeze of the OS. All other running programs and all input sources. I have no choice but to shut down via the power button on the tower.

Mint generates crash reports but I have no way to determine if they are being sent to Mozilla.

Firefox for Linux does not provide a troubleshooting system like it does on Windows. Neither does Mint.

I studied Computer Science in the 80s when Firefox was known as Navigator. I learned C and the Unix OS, but since then I became a psychologist, and don't remember too much of the Com Sci stuff I learned and I don't think Mint allows user modifications anyway.

What can be done to fix this? I don't have the Benjamins to buy a new Windows to replace the Linux, nor do I want to.

Greetings! I've been a Firefox evangelist for a long time! I'm having issue with my Dell Precision 5530 pushing Firefox audio to a Bluetooth speaker connected to PC. Others browsers work fine, however FF wants to use the speakers on my monitor, connected via HDMI. I've tried to change several times, however FF does not want to use the BT.

Can you please help?

Thank you kindly!

Hi.

I am running Firefox 149.0.2 on Arch Linux (Linux 6.19.12-arch1-1 (x86_64)). I have configured Firefox to use the "~/downloads" folder for downloads instead of the default "~/Downloads". I have also checked the "Clear cookies and site data every time you close Firefox" box in the "Privacy & Security" tab of the settings page, and configured the History settings to "Never remember history".

The Downloads folder I have set is indeed respected by Firefox: all files I download are saved to "~/downloads". However, every time I close Firefox it creates a folder entitled "Downloads" (with a capital "D") on my home folder. I do not want this folder to be created.

This really looks like a bug from my perspective, but is there some way yo fix this via the "about:config" tab? Thanks for the attention.

With Mozilla Firefox for Linux Mint 150.0 after logging into Chase Bank , when trying to pay off my credit card, I get a message: "It looks like this part of our site is not working right now". My Dell Precision Laptop from 2019 runs a frequently updated Ubuntu 24.04. About one or two weeks ago, after one of the latest Firefox updates, i noticed that video streaming produces rectangular flickering in rapid sweeps. ( Also fast scrolling large text websites produces similar flickering, I think I would have noticed it before...) . If you detected it once, you see it always again... :-( First I fiddled around with the nvidia settings because the driver was also recently updated, without much success. Playing locally stored videos, e.g. with VLC media player, still works fine, so the nvidia driver is not the problem i think. Yesterday I installed Chromium and the video performance is fine! As good as with firefox some weeks ago! So it must be one of the latest updates, that causes the problem. Generally I like firefox more than chromium. I like the control you have, e.g. via Add ons.. So I hope that the firefox performance will increase again... Thank you for firefox! Florian Mengedoht
