Flash offers a settings... panel to disable hw accelewration. If I'm able to get to that and do it, thwn things are fine. But much of the time, flash crashes, and I can't get that stupid panel.

Is there some way to disable stupid hw acceleration in flash permanently so it never shows up again?

It takes forever to get firefox alive.

You may gather I'm pissed off.

....... flash.

Hi, if you could try this and let us know if it works

Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).

To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:

  1. Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
  2. Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
  3. Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
  4. Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel.

The image "fpSettings1.PNG" does not exist.
  5. Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
  6. Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
  7. Restart Firefox.

This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

What you suggest does work when I am able to do it. But there are two problems. First, some fraction of the time Flash crashes before I can get that dialog box to appear. If it's already crashed, how can I use it to tell it to stop using hw acceleration? That problem is a consequence of the second problem. Unchecking that Enable Hardware Acceleration box is transient; the setting lasts at most for that session.

How can I make the setting permanent? Is there some registry setting, or some .INI file setting?

I know what you mean, this last update to FF has caused mine to stick and show an unresponsive message all the time. I am having to use another browser to post at the moment.

Have you updated everything lately, it could be that. ie, OS, addons, and Firefox

Have you updated both your your Flash plugin in FF settings. I found this page that might be a bit more use to you. If I have sent stuff that you have already tried sorry about that.

Hope that helps. :)

You can disable Flash in Settings, Addons, and click on Plugins on the left of the screen, then scroll down to Flash and on the right you have a drop down menu and it says Never Activate, if after everything you still cant get it to work. :)

I think I might have an answer.

I went into Firefox's Tools->Options->Advanced and turned off hardware acceleration there. I'm not sure that fixed it, but I haven't had a problem since I did that.

Of course, I think it means I do not have the benefit of hw acceleration in things other than Flash.

Sight.

Thank you for your time and help.
