I ran Spybot and Adaware. I cleaned my computer and it seems to be working better. I installed Adblock and I am not getting ads which is really nice. I noticed that my bookmarks on my desktop will not work now. Also, if I try to drag the block or circle to the desktop, it will not work. I have reset Firefox, started in safe mode without AdBlock. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas? Thanks a bunch.

Earlier today I updated my copy of Firefox on a Windows 10 PC to the new 64 bit version of Firefox 55. Since doing so, all of my bookmarks have disappeared, and newly created bookmarks are not displayed in the browser.

This is regardless of whether the bookmarks are imported from .html file or other browser.

I have since re-installed Firefox and it is still the same after having deleted personal settings and changed some settings as recommended on the help pages.

But I still have this issue: : I have never encountered this problem before.

Can someone please advise? The PC concerned runs Windows 10 and has 8GB RAM with more than adequate hard disk space available.

Hi everyone,

Recently I was cleaning some malware/viruses/spyware/worms and all other nasty files located on hard drive of computer. Actually I still have them but this is NOT the purpose of my message. The problem is that I lost everything in Firefox. All my bookmarks that I cannot live without are gone. ALL. Each and every bookmark is gone. Saved passwords are gone. Addons are gone. Online banking certificate is gone. Also when I click CTRL T to add new tab in same window I get extremely annoying squares (3 lines and each line with 5 squares) which are graphically showing websites I have visited. Please if someone could help me to get everything back, particularly bookmarks are extremely important.

I tried to do three possible tasks but neither of them worked.

TASK ONE:

Usage of about:<wbr>profiles command in address bar but it is reporting error message saying The address isn't valid.

TASK TWO (consisting of multiple steps):

step 1: finding old firefox profiles I could manage to find. I hope they are NOT all otherwise I am in huge trouble. Hopefully something was overlooked and you will see why in upcoming steps.

step 2: clicking Open menu icon on the left hand side of firefox consisting of three horizontal lines and click Open Help Menu icon and then click Troubleshooting Information

step 3: clicking about:profiles in section Application Basics. Here I then added every single profile I am aware of via button Create A New Profile

step 4: for each of profile I got listed, I clicked on Launch profile in new browser and my bookmarks, together with other settings (online banking certificate, saved passwords, addons,...) were NOT ( !!! ) there. In neither of profile. I pray that I overlooked some saved profile...

TASK THREE:

Bookmarks menu\Show All Bookmarks\Import And Backup\Restore. However, In this submenu Restore there is nothing to be restored.

Someone please help me as I really need to get, particularly but not only bookmarks, back.

Hello Mozilla Support. A list of porn video, chat, webcam and sex-hook-up bookmarks have been found in "Other Folders" on my PC which I have never put there. This has caused a great deal of distress and although difficult, I desperately would like help to confirm/prove that these were placed there by some type malicious source like Adware or Malware and not by me. This has happened on a Windows XP OS using Mozilla Firefox. The PC was erased and reformatted in approx 2012-13, and these links were found in this folder around 12 months ago in 2016. (Please see attachment) I never use or even look in that folder, so I had no idea that they were there, or from when. All of the link URLs are a mile long, which is unlike all the other bookmarks that I have saved everywhere else on this PC. Most/all of which simply end after the ".com", or ".com/forum" etc and that includes those that I am automatically logged in to. Has this been seen before? Is anyone aware of this? Is anyone aware of the possible cause? As much information as possible is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and help. Steve.

PLEASE BRING BACK BOOKMARK DESCRIPTIONS! I would love to know the reason for removal? You think it is redundant, but its very important to many people. This removal could quite literally force me to use Google Chrome exclusively Not happy with my preferred browser right now!

I cannot delete the Unsorted Bookmarks folder (delete is grayed out, as is Cut) and it has literally thousands of entries. I rarely if ever use the star so they must be being added automatically. Most of the entries are "Real Player Home Page." I think this huge number of (useless to me) bookmarks is affecting the Sync function as it keeps telling me it has encountered an error.

Until recently I was using Xmarks but that, too, has stopped functioning.

I am at a loss as to what to do to get rid of all those bookmarks under the UB folder.

When bookmarking a page, the "Choose" process shows only 7 lines of folders, requiring me to scroll through my dozens of them (even more scrolling required if some folders were left expanded). This is because the bookmarking window (the dropdown) is only a small bit of my screen/window height. I used to have an add-on that enlarged this dropdown to show a much longer view of my list. THAT SHOULD BE STANDARD IN FIREFOX!!! But apparently that add-on is not compatible with Firefox Quantum, and I can't find a replacement. Please advise!

Do the developers lead such simple lives that they have only 7 bookmark folders? PLEASE ADD THIS CAPABILITY TO THE BROWSER. I have a 27" monitor, and you ask me to work through a mailslot. CURRENTLY BOOKMARKING A PAGE IS MADDENING!

Meanwhile, can someone please direct me to a compatible add-on for this capability?

I have Firefox 44.0.2 but this problem has been going on even on previous versions. If I click on the star it goes through the motions of placing a bookmark. I even see this animation of a star moving to the list of bookmarks. But when I go into the bookmarks they are not listed. I have tried right clicking on the page and clicking the star and I have tried it form the tool bar. Neither works. I have also renamed the places.sqlite to places.sqlite.old and that doesn't seem to do a thing.

  Today I was automatically upgraded to FireFox Quantum.  Mostly it went well but my bookmarks have been mostly destroyed and/or disorganized.  I've tried restoring from two different dates prior to the upgrade but the restored bookmarks are a mess.  I'm a software developer and have spent a lot of time safeguarding and organizing these bookmarks.  I'm hoping this is a bug in Quantum and that your team can get this straightened out.  :)

Just updated and all of a sudden I have this obnoxious section in my bookmarks toolbar telling me what I recently bookmarked and an unnecessary folder titled "Other Bookmarks" which I can't delete. How do I get rid of them, and who in their right mind thinks that adding more clutter that can't easily be removed is a good idea?

Everything was hunky dory until the awful v48 update. With no other changes to the system, bookmarks are now annoyingly slow to use. If I try to bookmark this page for example, FF has to think for 2-5 seconds before I can enter tags. After saving the bookmark it freezes for another 1-3 seconds before I can do anything else. This is an awful downgrade.

There were absolutely no other changes to my setup except for the update. I didn't change any preference, install an addon, or the like. In any case, I performed a safe mode test and this makes the pauses even worse.

What else can I try? Your FF knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Firefox Refresh 'bookmark backups' folder is empty. Had to change profile.ini to profile.iniOLD to circumvent 'profile is missing or inaccessible' problem. Tried jscher2000's suggested procedure for reverting to old profile but didn't understand 'semi-randomized name' within Old Firefox Data folder, which seems to be incomplete, as stated 'bookmark backups' folder is empty and fool that i am did not manually back up my bookmarks (years of research). i thought when i ran time machine they backed up automatically. is there any way to recover bookmarks?

When I right-click on a bookmark in a bookmark folder, I am not presented with a way to sort the bookmarks. I am used to IE where there is an option to sort the links (or folders within a folder) alphabetically with just one click.

Hi, My places.sqlite file size is 30,720 KB have I reached the maximum size, is there even a maximum size for this. Suddenly the visited links are no longer changing font color, as I am preparing for an exam I need visited questions to change color, to keep track of questions that I have finished. But if I delete a few days of history then again,a few more visited links change color then again it stops, so it seems something is getting full and not able to accommodate any more? Why are my visited links no longer changing color after a certain number of visits? I do have a back up of the places.sqlite file. So I have tried everything from deleting the profile, uninstalling reinstalling, creating a new profile, then copy pasting places.sqlite etc, but as mentioned after a few visits, visited links no longer change color, if I delete a few days of history then again a few visits will again change color and then stop again, so what should I increase so that my visited links quota is increased, I have also tried tweaking about:config and it has had no result. Although I was not really confident that increasing brower.history_max _pages (don't remember exact name, but I am sure you get the idea) is going to help. Seems as though my visited links change color, quota is full and only if I delete a few days of history will I get a few more visited links to change color. Can somebody shed some light? As mentioned my places.sqlite file size is 30,720 KB so I think perhaps this has something to do with this? Would really appreciate if someone could help. Thank you.

Currently all my bookmarks, especially those in the Bookmarks Toolbar always open in the current tab I'm looking at, thereby changing my current tab to a new one. I want to keep my current tab and simply click on a bookmark in the toolbar and have it open in a new tab, just like it does as a default setting in my other browser Maxthon. This crappy browser instead forces me to first click on a new tab and THEN choose my bookmark. I don't like clicking twice for a bookmark, I want to do it in ONE click, not two. So, once again, how do I make bookmarks automatically open in a new tab instead of in the current tab?

i have lost everything and struggling to get all my bookmarks back after a update from firefox- HELP! Is there a number where someone can talk me through this as I cant seem to sort it from the support pages
