I had Firefox 14 running on Windows 7 and had no problems. I updated to new Firefox and when I connected to Internet all I got was a white screen. Connected fine, went to the website fine but did not show web address on the tab only in the address bar and there was nothing on the page. I tried Internet Explorer and that worked fine. Then I shut down and restarted in Ubuntu and tried my Firefox version 22 and it worked fine so I'm thinking something is wrong with the new version of Firefox with Windows 7 now. I don't want to loose all my passwords or I would uninstall Firefox and reinstall it. If you can tell me how to save my passwords in Firefox 26 (latest version as of 1/16/2014) I'll try uninstall and reinstall. Thanks for any help you can give me. I would prefer Firefox doing a fix on this instead. I'm using Ubuntu right now to send this.

Thanks Philipp but I fixed the problem. I selected Control Screen Print and saved all my passwords in Firefox to another program. Then I downloaded Firefox 23 (a stable version) from Internet Explorer browser onto an USB drive. Then I used CC Cleaner to uninstall Firefox on my laptop. I selected to keep my apps and personal information when CC Cleaner asked me if I wanted to (it's free http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner or Google it). Then I installed the stable Firefox version 23 from my USB drive. Started up Firefox and everything worked just fine. The problem is an issue with the new version of Firefox and it's a real problem that needs to be fixed by Mozilla real soon.

hello, normally such issues are caused by a firewall/security software which doesn't recognize & therefore blocks new firefox versions: Fix problems connecting to websites after updating Firefox

hello, can you go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of that page and paste them here into a reply on the forum? this might give us a clue what is going on...

i don't think that this is a general issue with firefox 26 (otherwise this forum would probably be flooded with similar reports). have you tried deleting all the rules in your firewall relating to firefox and let it detect the new version again?

other things to try: Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems or Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

Not sure exactly what information you need. I'll help any way I can but I don't want to post my private settings (Important Modified Preferences) on this board. If it will help, I'll screen capture the info and email it to you as a jpg. Application Basics

Sorry forgot to answer your last question. No I have not adjusted anything in Firefox since reinstalling version 23 and I have no plans on upgrading or making changes at this time. It is working and works perfectly now. Hope this helps others.

the part about extensions and modified preferences from the troubleshooting information page would be the important one... there shouldn't really be any personal information in there (except maybe your set homepage & printer name - but since those two aren't really relevant to the issue, you could just cut them out before submitting the information to the forum).

And just so you know, if you Google Firefox white screen after update you find a lot of complaints listed.

ok, i was primarily looking at any out of the ordinary network settings , but you have none of those, so that shouldn't be the issue.

so i think it might either be an issue with one of your addons or a firewall, like explained in my first post. please note that running an older version of firefox isn't something that is supported or recommended, since that will leave you vulnerable to numerous known vulnerabilities...

When I upgraded to the latest Firefox version, nothing worked and all I got was a white screen. My firewall settings were not changed and my add ons were fine (my experience has been firefox tells you the addon needs to be updated or if no update is available you just disable it) so Firefox has the problem, not my settings or installing version 23 instead of 26 would not work. This board has many people who have changed their add-ons and their firewall settings and it never corrected the problem so the issue is Firefox's problem. I hope someone will fix the problem. Meantime, I recommend people download a stable older version like 23 and use CC Cleaner to uninstall their current version keeping their private settings and passwords and install the older version. Thanks for your effort.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

See:

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
